And a Happy Not Back To School all of you Maine Unschoolers! This is a busy time of year for all, even those of us living without school, so if you have activities or events you would like to post, please contact me. Also take a look at the Events page, as I have updated and added content. Here are several things of note:
First, a big thank you to Portland Public Library's, Justin Hoenke, Teen Librarian, for not only promoting the Wednesday evening events, but other teen gatherings as well. I know my kids, Olivia, 13 and Adam, 11, have benefited from PPL's offerings. If you have younger children, be sure to check out the library's Kid's Place.
Second, I am very happy to announce that we have a space and time for fall Teen Meet-Ups!
When: Every Tuesday, 12Noon-2pm
Where: Portland Public Library in the Teen Lounge. (The Teen Lounge is located behind the circulation desk). 5 Monument Square Portland, Maine 04101. Directions.
Who: Unschooling Teens, ages 11-19.
Third, there are some spaces available for kids ages 10-12 only in the Lobster: Untold Tales at the Gulf Of Maine Research Institute. See Events page to register.
Fourth, Introduction to the Holocaust will be at our home on Thursday evenings, 6-730p, kids 11+. Please register soon. The course begins Oct. 7. For the curious and for those who don't know us, this is the space the kids will be gathering in:
And finally, if you have ever wanted to sing in a community choir that was welcoming, friendly, relaxed yet challenging, you should check out Voices In Harmony Choirs. Olivia and Adam have been singing with the Saco Bay Children's Choir for many years now, and Alex and I will be singing in the Mixed Choir again this fall. Tuesday evenings are a singing, family event for us. Located in Saco.
Again, check the Events page regularly and let me know if you have events you would like me to add. Many thanks and happy Unschooling!
